well it's been ages since i've written anything here, and i had many a tale to tell of my sydney adventures [now that i'm finally having some], but now i don't really feel like writing about them. reason being is we are now officially at war. for the first time in our history australia is an aggressor in a war that has little to do with us, besides some arse licking on john howards part. after reading the news via email [knew it would happen, but have been out shopping - feel lame now] i actually feel quite sick, it's really depressing. after weeks of world protests, UN inspections and debate, the US have done what the world has said it didn't want. all because bush is on some sort of crusade to finish what his father couldn't a decade ago. meanwhile we are fed bullshit propaganda about terrorism and al quaeda, the 'axis of evil', allowing us the excuse that what we're doing is good for the well being of our world. let us not forget that saddam hussein and al quaeda are two seperate problems, and merely mentioning them in the same breath on cnn isn't a tangiable enough link to deem war the best course of action. why is it america's place to free the iraqi people of saddam hussein? who will free us of the tyranny of george w, and why is war the only option? and what makes this worse is that bush shouldn't even be president in the first place!
for now we can only wish for this to end quickly, with little loss of life, but our thoughts should be with the everyday people of iraq who will be the real sufferers in all this, and our hopes that the ramifications of this war will not be greater than the hard lessons we've already had to endure, yet are still to learn from. bush/howard/blair have a lot to answer for.
