//welcome to ho-6//

yes it's 2000-ho6 and this is my first post of the year, possibly the last judging by my past slackness.

it seems kinda sad that all i can think to say is that nothing much is happening, same old same old, but things haven't been too bad lately i suppose. pete is with us, and already is leaving next week for greener pastures. off to the motherland, makes me slightly jealous, but sydney is still keeping me interested. boy i'll miss him. started a new job a few months back, happier on that front. got accepted into uni, and deffered until next year. design degree, etc.etc. but now that things are more settled on the work front it seems less urgent to throw myself into study.

the year got off to it's usual start of concerts and gigs. BDO as usual, franz ferdinand. got tix for u2 also and seen a couple of other small things here and there. haven't been back to adelaide in what feels like ages. 1 day off at xmas doesn't count. missing all the peeps.

today i have wasted my day off. kate and i were going to go and slink around the city checking out the 2nd hand stores in surry hills. i didn't get up till 1. now it's 2 and the day has gotten away from me a little. i always end up taking too long to get ready and ruining the day. there's always tonight i suppose.

//absolut friday//

i woke up on the couch this morning at 5am and realised i'd wasted any chance of actually spending my only day off this fortnight productively. once in bed i didn't reemerge until about 2pm today, thus confirming my worst fears.

it's now 9.25pm and i've spent the day watching colin firth in 'pride and prejudice' and drinking boston donkey's. which is actually a moscow mule [vodka, lime and ginger beer over ice] but somehow got modified when we were pissed one night and drinking them out of plastic bottles on the train and now we can scarce remember what they're actually called. they go very well with the haigh's dark chocolate almonds i bought from the new shop on george st. sydney is a little more complete now.

last night i visited wagamama for the first time. very strange to dine in what is seemingly an upmarket restaurant type fast food chain, i can't really decide what to make of it. lovely food though. spent much of the night looking at things i can't afford and spent 2 hours crying in kinokuniya over art books i'll probably never own. i somehow managed to scam a gift voucher from work and was able to purchase a book on business card design [?] for about $6 of my own money. not sure as yet what i'll actually use it for but there you go.

oh and i met a guy on pitt st mall who told me he'd travelled back in time 25 years before the day of his birth and wrote all of the worlds knowledge in his notebook, then travelled back to the present day and created the information superhighway. he then claimed he was the father of vikram seth. i couldn't help but admire him.

//mingers//

mingers really get on my nerves. we played some at pool the other night there. and they were gross. not only did they make comments about myself and my friends when we were taking our shots, but they were physically very unattractive, but acting like they were the shit. wasn't my gut hanging all over the table sweetheart [in a singlet from target no less]. made the winning all the sweeter.

anyway, things are ok here apart from some of the lame characters you meet on your average night in sydney at the pub. it's been a fairly quiet week, no beer for me for a while either so i think i've probably lost about 60 kilos and am now a shadow of my former self. i did drink vodka in the afternoon on my only day off this fortnight [on my own no less, a bit sad]. what's to do when you've a third of a bottle of absolut kicking around?

it's also been the week for weird customers. one woman farted quite audibly in front of me at work the other day there and didn't even bat an eyelid. hello! i heard you! then we have one customer who refuses to leave when we close, and you have to follow them around till you're basically yelling at them, only to have them hide in the lift or something. i swear the older i get the less patience i have for people. maybe need to rethink the customer aspect of my career...

speaking of older i turned 26 this week, so chalk another year up on the board. it seems like 26 will be a totally lame age, kind of in transit between your early twenties and the downward spiral that i'm sure my thirties will be. sparks all sorts of internal debate about when i plan on growing up etc. etc. i'm not any further forward at the moment than i was 10 years ago so it's slightly daunting. when do you stop being young and interesting, with the emphasis on the young?

//intransit//

well hello there stranger. how's things going? yeah, pretty good. been busy. oh you know, the usual. moved house, changed job, lost 20 kg using the jenny craig diet. oh wait, that didn't happen. the rest is a fairly accurate description of what i've been doing since, umm, august? has it been that long? well i now live in a place called epping, which is on the northern line of sydney, still kinda close to hornsby but edging ever closer to the city. ive been here for a few months and hopefully will hang around a few more then try to make the move before i have to think about the potential of uni. i'm still shackled to borders. i think it must be what it's like when you know you're on the verge of a divorce but you're holding it together for the kids. or in my case, the money. i've never been divorced but maybe it's something along those lines. fortunately they've moved me to the city store now. the move from hornsby has helped my tolerance of the work tremendously. it's nice just being in there, you sort of feel like you are part of the thing, rather than trolling around in some generic suburb. having said that, we do still troll around hornsby sometimes, mainly at the pub, or karaoke. usually the occasion is a borders farewell. everyone is leaving. i have one tonight, and i've been to one every week for the last month i think. lots of peeps are going overseas. us, canada, uk, europe. i kind of like it here for now. still so much potential.

//the doldrums//

with mercury moving out of it's downward spiral i can apparently look forward to the veil of misery lifting and things getting back to more or less normal. i really hate winter and it seems to be dragging itself on and while it's sunny here it doesn't have the sense of summer that i'm looking for. probably because it's not summer. every day off i've had so far seems to be a bit jinxed and is usually grey and rainy, so tonight i keep my fingers crossed for a glorious spring day tomorrow so i can sit on my banana lounge on the front lawn and paint stuff on my $2.95 canvases [slightly inspired by my new chris cunningham dvd but not in a creepy way] and read magazines. stinky is still out of action so i'm limited to the hornsby region as i'm too poor to catch the train.

im reading a new book but it sucks. something about an autobiography by james delingpole - fiction but crap. like nick hornby for males who were in their mid-20s in the mid-90s and who are into boring superficial shit like going to oxford and taking drugs and having sex with heiresses. i really have no desire whatsoever for the character and hope he dies in the end. one thing i am enjoying is the aforementioned chris cunningham dvd with full version of aphex twin's 'windowlicker' videoclip as well as the beautiful 'all is full of love' even tho i already had that one on dvd. enjoying medulla but haven't bought it yet as will probably wait to see what the limited edition looks like. must also recommend 'hot fuss' by the killers. bit of a grower. looking forward to the weekend. attending a birthday partay in place other than hornsby, my mecca of cool surry hills. perchance might stumble upon something young and interesting.. sigh
